Effective Search Interface For Online Database Applications

An effective search interface for database-supported application is the one developed by Fabrizio Minniti for Eurovisioni.org.

While the database does not seem to be fully populated, the interface utilized is a good example of effective information design and a sensible navigation approach.

Though apparently still to be refined graphically, the idea lends well itself to many applications where the user needs to select values across two or multiple fields.

Instead of selecting through multiple drop-down menus the user can simply find the ideal cross point for the two initial values he is looking for.

Once the two values have been identified the system submits to the user further choices to refine its search through the use of a simple contextual pop-up selector.

Good reference.
