Premiere Image-based Visual Search Engine

Ditto

Online Search Engine
FREE

Ditto enables people to navigate the Web through pictures. Through images, Ditto provides an excellent way to visually navigate images and pictures hidden on the Web.

The interface is simple and straightforward and next to the search box there are only two view options to control the display of search results. The "compact view" provides for display of image thumbnails accompanied by a "masked" link to their source Web site and information about their file size.

The "detailed view" provides also Filename, Title of the page from which the image is coming from, the extended URL and the file size displaying also the exact size of the image in pixels.

PROS: Ditto is a valuable resource for the amateur researcher, hobbyist, or academician looking for images to utilize in research or presentations. Ditto selects quality pictures and sources through a team of selected human editors.

CONS: It is annoying to me that the engine has a strong advertising business strategy and that it does its best to push vertical banners next to the search results into my viewing attention. At the top or below selected search results pages you will see "Featured Products and Services" listings from an extraordinary variety of merchants. While this maybe a valuable business model to test, it certainly detracts for the credibility, professionalism and prestige of the search engine.
