How To Send Very Large Files Across The Web: Eatlime Does It

Do you need to send huge, impossibly large files to your colleagues via the Internet? Eatlime, a new free, web-based (and desktop) service allows you to send huge files to anyone while making the process as simple as it can get. Still in Beta, the new service looks very promising as it provides key unique innovative features, in a fresh and easy to use interface, with (for now) little or no distracting ads. Absolutely a cinch to use and a great free service to share huge files that works right now.

I used to be in love with MediaFire, a superlative web-based service geared at making it easy for anyone to upload, share and send large files to anyone. But as MediaFire has gained notoriety and fame it has also added lots of advertising and a cap of 100 MB on files that can be uploaded for sharing. Notwithstanding the above MediaFire remains a very cool large file sending service but it is not the cool secret tool I wouldn't want yet to tell anyone else.

The crown has now been passed to a new large file sending and sharing service thayt goes even beyond MediaFire quite impressive capabilities.

Eatlime, formely Youswap.com, has just relaunched with a completely new interface and with an approach to deliver and to share very large files which I haven't seen yet before.

However hard to believe, Eatlime makes sending large files as easy as making two clicks. One on the file(s) you want to share or send to someone else, and one to paste the download link in your favourite instant messenger or email.

Not only.

Large files shared are kept in your account and can be easily re-shared or re-sent to anyone anytime and when you start sending a large file your partner awaiting it can start downloading it the very moment you start uploading it.

Here the details:

Updated on July 2009: The service is not available anymore.

Eatlime Overview

Founded by Mohammad Al Adham and Adil Lalani, Eatlime is a new web-based (plus desktop version) file sharing and sending service utilizing some new key solutions and features. These are:

  • Free sending and sharing of large files up to 1GB in size (for free registered users)
  • Files to be shared can be sent by simply selecting them and pressing Ctrl-T
  • Multiple files can be sent at once
  • Receiving partners can start downloading files as soon as the sender starts uploading them
  • Shared files are kept and archived inside each registered user profile
  • No maximum limit of files that can be shared/ sent via Eatlime
  • Track your shared file download links
  • Import all of your email contacts directly from your Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo, or AOL contact lists

Registration is free but it is not required.

How It Works

To get up and running on Eatlime it takes no time at all. The registration form is immediately accessible from the home page and it is easy to read, simple and short to fill out. You actually don't have to register, but if you do you do get access, for free, to all Eatlime key features.

Once registered you are already logged in (the way to go!) and ready to start sending / sharing large files with anyone.

Eatlime does not care about the file formats you use and as a consequence you can safely send video clips, audio files, Photoshop drafts, zipped documents or any other type of file to your selected recipient. I have thrown all kinds of files at it and Eatlime accepted them all.

To send / share one or more large files you only need to click on the "Add Files" button appearing in the center top of the Eatlime web page. As soon as you do that a browsing dialog box will allowing you to select any file you want from your computer disk.

Multiple files can be selected and added at once.

Eatlime starts immediately to upload all of your data while immediately offering you a sharelink to copy and share with any of your contacts via email, or instant messenger.

To get the sharelink (basically a URL from which your shared file can be downloaded) you can simply click on the Copy button and Paste the download URL to any email or IM chat box.

Further, both you and your recipients can access and preview any and all of the shared links even before downloading them. A custom download page shows in fact all of your uploaded files, with a small preview thumbnail, an option to see a slideshow preview of all the contents and to download selectively only the files you need.

The beauty of Eatlime is that recipients can indeed start downloading their files as soon as you start uploading them. No need to wait for the whole file to be uploaded. As soon as you start uploading the sharelink becomes available and you can immediately give it out for others to use. This is indeed a great, unique time saver.

Downloadable Desktop version

With the downloadable desktop version of Eatlime (available only for Windows) things get even easier. You simply select one or multiple files anywhere on your desktop and press Ctrl-T.

Eatlime registers your selection and kicks in immediately by both starting the upload of those files to its servers while providing you with a notification dialog box allowing you to promptly copy or email the download links for the same.

Summary Conclusions

Eatlime-dont-juice-eat-it.gif

"EatLime is an easy-to-use free service that allows anyone, anywhere to transfer large files over the Web, Email, or Instant Messenger (IM)."

While Eatlime is still in Beta, and several functionalities are yet to be activated (the Help and Settings functions are yet not accessible and the MyContacts and My Sharelinks features have not yet been fully activated) the service already provides great value to anyone wanting to try it out.

I honestly do not know any other way to send large files so easily and rapidly. For me Eatlime, is now the large file sending and sharing service to beat.

Go check it out yourself and let everyone know what you think.
