Best Blog Directory And RSS Submission Sites
Other Tactics
Where To Submit My RSS Feeds And Weblog URLs To Get More Exposure, Visibility And Reach
(Premium version now available)
1) Pinging Key Directories
The databases of key RSS feeds can be pinged when your site/blog/RSS feed is updated. These include:
weblogs.com
Technorati
blo.gs
Since a few days also the Yahoo's RSS database can be pinged when your blog updates. This ensures that your site/blog/RSS feed will be crawled/indexed in a very timely manner.
The entry point you need to use is: http://api.my.yahoo.com/RPC2. It's just like the weblogs.com ping API.
If you'd prefer a REST API, it has that too. For example, to register an update for my blog, I'd fetch this URL:
http://api.my.yahoo.com/rss/ping?u=http://jeremy.zawodny.com/blog
It is possible to do it with a simple bookmark if your weblog software doesn't allow you to add more ping targets. Just create that link and drag it to your button bar, bookmarks, favorites, and click it anytime you have updated your feed. or whatnot. (I'm working on a quick HOWTO for adding My Yahoo pings to MovableType. It's quite easy, really.)

2) Syndicating Your Own News Content
Consider also the potential of creating a simple way for your readers who have their own Web sites to easily syndicate your content on their own Web pages.
Lockergnome has a great example of this at work, though there are other good ones out there. Check out his page at:

Educating your audience in syndicating and easily republishing your headlines or entire articles gives long terms major results while increasing your credibility and authority in the field.

3) Signing Up To Popular Resources
Signing up to AllConsuming
AllConsuming tracks the reading preferences of bloggers around the world.
All Consuming is a Web site that watches weblogs for books that they're talking about, and displays the most popular ones on an hourly basis. You get some increased exposure by being associated in the Comments area of popular books and inside other AllConsuming listings.

Signing up to Blogads
Blogads is an increasingly popular broker of quality news feeds and blog sites to the small and the smart advertisers. Being listed among the possible destinations on which ad space can be bought is certainly valuable and does not require to be forced any ad coming your way. You select what to accept and what to not accept. You also determine rates and your own marketing profile.
Though the Blogads site may not look like much, the service is active and it does work as advertised.

Signing up to Alexa
Do a search on your site URL at Alexa.com and see if you are found.
If not, your search will have triggered what it takes to be inside their database in the near future.

N.B.:
Make sure that before you start submitting your RSS feed you prepare the following information:
1) List of Blogs/RSS feeds that you want to submit
2) Name of each blog/RSS feed (title)
3) URL of the blog and URL of the RSS feed
4) Description
5) Language
6) Possible categories
7) Author name
