Participant Controls

« Moderator Controls | Main | Polling »

WebTrain integrates several features that allow session participants some control over their ability to contribute or feedback.

Particularly interesting are the participant feedback controls which allow you to provide one among four possible feedback signals to the presenter and to the other participants. These feedback controls are "OK", "No" represented by a red cross, "raise hand" to stop the presenter and a "Quesion mark" to ask a question.

Each one of the participants can click next to his name and turn on any feedback icon needed. Turning the feedback icon off requires simply to click again on it.

Providing only visual clues and status information are the other two icons optionally displayed in the participants grid. These are reserved to indicate or provide access to the microphone and to showing whether the screen-casting mode is being operated.

Unfortunately the tooltips and interaction mechanism designed around this visual feedback icons has not been perfected and leaves quite a bit to be desired in terms of ease of use. Nonetheless, the basic feedback controls are very useful and effective as soon as one is in control of their meaning and use.

Another feedback control available to participants is placed next to the major function tabs and allows you to indicate to the presenter whether you would want her to go faster or slower during her presentation.

Further controls are available to WebTrain session participants by right-clicing on other participants user names. In this case the participant can choose to private chat or to "toggle away" the status of the other one.

Other controls and features available to participants are accessible through the "Options" button at the bottom left of the WebTrain main interface.
These allow the participants to fine-tune their audio setiings and to choose whether or not they like to be notified when new participants join or leave the meeting. The "Options" control also allows the participant to select to activate voicechat with other participants (if allowed by the moderator) or not.

As pointed out it is really in the hands of the presenter/moderator (host) to decide how much further controls to provide to the participants and whether these controls are immediately accessible or are moderated by the presenter.
