Desktop - Application Sharing

« Video Conferencing | Main | Remote Control »

Full desktop/application sharing is possible inside WebTrain.

Labelled Screen-casting inside WebTrain the facility allow effective application sharing with a good essential set of optional features such as color reduction, desktop sharing and remote control (see separate section).

The presenter can either select to share the view of her complete desktop or select a specific running application to be shared with the participants in the session.

When doing application sharing screen images can be converted to 8-bit (256 color images) to reduce bandwidth demands and to speed-up the delivery of such images to attending participants on slow dial-up lines.

"Note that when you are application sharing, there is a slight delay in seeing the results of what you are doing on someone else's computer, since your instructions have to travel to WebTrain's nearest broadcast server, and then to the sharer's computer, before they take effect. Then the screen-cast image of the effect generated has to travel back to the WebTrain broadcast server and to your computer. For example, if you type on someone's Word document, you will not see the results of your typing for a second or two." From WebTrain official FAQ

As soon as an application sharing session is closed, the last static screenshot of the application used is made visible by WebTrain for every participant to be seen. This in turn may be annotated as an image.

Users on Windows XP and Windows 2000 that have Hardware Acceleration turned ON for their video display may also experience screen artifacts during screen-casting sessions. To eliminate the problem it is sufficient to "right mouse click on the empty desktop and select Properties. Click on the Settings tab, then click on the [Advanced] button. Select Performance or Troubleshoot, and change video acceleration to none."
