Cost - PricingInterface Customization - Branding Main Overview WebTrain has a unique pricing model offering the advantage of no setup or initial costs and allowing customers to pre-pay for the amount of hours they wish to use. Web conferencing time on WebTrain is 16.6 cents/per minuter per user which is about less than half of what the standard enterprise market pricing has been charging throughtout 2002 and the beginning of 2003. In this respect (and therefore mostly in the eyes of the "enterprise" market) this is a very competitive and aggresive pricing scheme. On the other hand SOHO users and small organizations generally prefer flat monthly fees that allow them the relaxed state of mind needed to use such technologies to augment their internal communications and training services or in some cases to expand into new online marketing opportunities (online courses and workshops). Fairly enough WebTrain does not charge you for your own use of the room as for rehearsal or preparation/setup time. Only when two or more people are inside the room the meter starts ticking. "No up-front fees or set-up costs. You can literally host a meeting of 500 persons within minutes of discovering the web site."
There are some hidden costs consisting of additional charges for allowing users to see recording of your events (though the information about it is somewhat ambiguous). The above mentioned contradictory information is available inside the official WebTrain site in the section devoted to Pricing (under the Information tab). In the section labelled Recorded Meeting/Event Playback it is stated that: "When recorded content is streamed to a recipient, your account has one minute deducted from its time balance for every two minutes of recording that is downloaded." Immediately below in the section labelled Recorded Meeting/Event Storage WebTrains states: "........ There are no data transfer charges for playing recordings." At first glance the above two sentences looks in contradiction. Maybe some clarification is required. Also, while I was kindly informed by one of Webtrain reps that I had unlimited available space on the MessageBoard (where event recordings are also stored) I was never told that as a matter of fact ONLY 5MB are indeed allowed for free!). (A one hour recording of an online event utilizes at least 10 MB of disk space when there is a moderate amount of visual activity, slides shown and no video). There are also charges relative to the amount of bandwidth used by future visitors of your recorded events which are added as soon as you exceed 1GB of data transfer. (100 users accessing your "generic" 1-hour recorded event will total 1GB of data transfer). These are the additional charges for these services:
