Audio Conferencing - VoIP

« Multi-Protocol IM | Main | Video Conferencing »

WebConference.com integrates full multi-party, full-duplex VoIP functionalities offered by the Macromedia Flash Communication Server technology, allowing for good voice quality and some tangible delay.

Both the presenter and the participants can talk hands free, and the Macromedia Flash technology employed integrates the ability to reduce echo and feedback through an advanced setting control available to all users (need to right-click on your video/audio window, select Settings, and then access the microphone icon appearing in the little dialog window. There you will find a way to monitor both the microphone input level as well the echo cancellation feature).

Quality of audio is more than acceptable even on a 56K dial-up line.

Delay/latency maybe quite significant amounting to up to a few seconds depending on your connection speed.

The only "visible" audio controls are visible only to the presenter/moderator and to those participants whoe microphones have been enabled. These two controls allow to lock the mike in an "ON" position (Auto), or to press "Talk" each time one wants to intervene.

An extra control labelled "Enable All Microphones" allows to open all participants' microphones at once.

The presenter/moderator can also selectively enable the microphone of anyone of the participants by simply clicking on the grey circle icon displayed next to each participant's name.

Webconference.com offers also the opportunity to utilize/integrate a traditional phone-based conferencing system. This can work for up to 30/100 people at the same time and WebConference.com provides you with your own telephone conference number and extension. Please note that in this situation each meeting participant may incur long distance charges with their own long distance provider.
