Text Chat

« Multi-Protocol IM | Main | Audio Conferencing - VoIP »

VCOM Central integrates a solid basic text chat facility.

With a maximum capacity of 1024 characters (NetMeeting has 2048 and Yahoo Messenger chat has 800) the VCOM chat tool offers all of the basic functionalities one expects from this category of tool:

a) Private text messages can be sent to any user.

b) Automatic URL detection is enabled in the text chat window.

c) The text chat contents can be printed and saved to a File.

d) A dedicated command in the File menu allows searching inside the chat window as well.

Access to these functions is available through the File menu.Text cannot be copied and pasted from the chat window into another application.

Text in the chat window can be formatted easily by utilizing the Bold, Italic and Underline buttons available next to it or by pressing the "F" button that opens up a full Font Control dialog box. Text can be formatted for both the sending and receiving party (like most instant messengers allow).

The end user can also select to see time stamps published next to each chat item and choose to have a separate window open when dealing with private messages.

Sound alerts can be set for the moderator to be prompted when pre-specified words or phrases are entered in the chat box.

The moderator can also clear the text chat box any time she wishes to.

VCOM Central additionally provides free to its customers/agents an instant messaging tool to keep in touch with colleagues and to simplify the process of inviting or contacting colleagues, staff or students to come to the online private room for a meeting.

As VCIM, the VCOM instant messenger does not add any special or valuable feature outside the ones offered already by the more popular IM solutions (Yahoo Messenger, AOL IM, ICQ, etc) the usefulness of adopting this different instant messenger in place of more popular ones would be quite limited.
