PowerPoint Presentation facilities
PowerPoint presentation facilities are dedicated components of a Web conferencing system supporting the live delivery of a PowerPoint generated slide presentation. Specific components that support a PowerPoint presentation facility may include a control to upload .PPT file while converting them to another format (e.g.: .JPG, .GIF, or other formats), a slide list, a thumbnail previewing facility, controls to move to the next and previous slide, ability to preview a slide before "broadcasting" it, full screen display mode, preservation of transition and animations and the provision to use whiteboard and annotation tools on top of the slides being presented.
Advanced features may also include the ability to select a presentation to be run in the reception area of your virtual conference room or before the meeting starts and the provision for running presentations in a continuous loop.
• Automatic conversion to JPG/ GIF
Automatic conversion to .JPG/.GIF allows the transformation of PowerPoint individual slides to a Web-compatible format. As Web conferencing often takes place through a browser it is required that the content to be shown is in a Web-compatible format. While Internet Explorer can directly open and view PowerPoint files this feature cannot be used to broadcast the presentation to other Internet-connected participants.
Some Web conferencing tools utilize alternative approaches to displaying PowerPoint presentations online and do not convert individual slides to .JPG/.GIF. Some of these approaches allow higher display quality and the preservation of PowerPoint transitions and animations which are normally lost in a standard conversion to .JPG/.GIF.
• Preservation of original PPT format
Preservation of the original PPT file format allows the broadcasting of a presentation with full features, including the full playback of slide transitions and animations, with the original display quality left intact.
• Slide List
The slide list is a facility that allows the presenter/moderator to see a list of all the presentations and slides available to her. Through this facility the presenter/moderator can easily access any slide without needing to proceed in a linear fashion through the presentation.
• Full screen
"Full screen" describes the display mode in which a PowerPoint presentation can be viewed without any controls, menus or other software related tools being displayed. In "full screen" mode the entire screen is filled with the content of each individual slide being presented.
• PowerPoint transitions
PowerPoint transitions are those visual effects that graphically bridge the passage from one slide to the next. Equivalent to television and film wipes and fades PowerPoint transitions are best used to signal access to different section of presentation content, and for opening and closing effects. Since PowerPoint transitions are an important asset in any presenter toolbox, preservation of PowerPoint transitions is a valuable feature, yet to be found only on very few Web conferencing systems.
• Annotation tools
Annotation tools allow the live mark-up of presentation slides during a Web conference. They may include a standard pen marker, as well as standard drawing tools, or advanced annotation tools like a digital laser, highlighter, spotlight, step marker and more.
