Participant Controls

•   Raise hand
Hand raising is the functionality allowing participants in a Web conference to signal their wish to ask or answer a question, make a comment or a statement during a live presentation. Icons are generally used to provide this type of functionality to users. When users click on those items, a visual alert icon is displayed next to their name in the presenter/moderator attendees' list.

•   Immediate feedback
Immediate feedback facilities support the Web conference participant in providing real-time instant feedback to what is being presented or asked. Immediate feedback facilities may include the ability for the participants to click an icon that portrays the participant feedback message: I want to ask a question, I wish to make a comment, I understand, I don't understand, You are going too fast, You are going to slow, etc.

•   Display
Since the optimization of how much data is transmitted during a Web conference directly influences the performance and delay that individual participants will perceive during the event, it is rather important that ideally both the presenter/moderator and the participants have facilities and controls that allow them to set the display quality of what they see/hear. In fact, by being able to control the number of colors displayed, the resolution/size of the image and the audio and video streams bitrate or framerate one can directly influence very significantly the responsiveness and latency of such systems.
