Video ConferencingAudio Conferencing - VoIP Main Desktop - Application Sharing Video conferencing is one of Session three core abilities (together with Application Sharing with the ShareApp module and Presentation/Whiteboarding with the MediaSpace module). Requiring a minimum of a dual ISDN line for minimum acceptable results (128 Kbps), Session utilizes some very effective technical solutions to provide a video signal that is good in quality, with little latency, and, hard to be found on software-based videoconferencing systems, capable of full motion video and perfect lip-synch when active voice exchanges occur. Through its Preferences settings Session presently supports display of the video window in either a 160x120, 320x240 or 640x480 video window. On the other hand the only video codec available inside the program supports only 160x120 and 320*240 video resolutions (In order to use the 320X240 capture in the client you have, you must be running a Pentium 4). Other fine tuning controls inside the Media - Preferences menu allow each user to optimize video quality versus frame rate and to strike a balance between audio and video performance through a simple slider. The video conferencing abilities of Session allow a maximum of six simultaneous feeds to be shown at any one time both on Windows and on the Mac (on 800 MHz machines or better ones). Each participant is able to select which one among the participants she is going to see. With Session video quality, performance, latency and overall ability to effectively communicate with audio and video is as best as it can get today, outside of using very expensive and proprietary hardware-based traditional video conferencing equipment (Tandberg, Nortel, Avaya, Polycom, etc.). The video input controls of Session allow also the selection of different video input sources like electronic telescopes, video editing systems output, microscopes, ultrasound machines, etc. It is also possible to take either the transmit or receive video window and drag it directly into the workspace portion of MediaSpace for live discussion and annotation with other live participants.
