Annotation Features - WhiteBoard

« File Sharing | Main | Recording »

Wave Three Session integrates a full set of whiteboard features and live annotation functions inside its MediaSpace application.

MediaSpace is indeed an advanced P2P whiteboard and live collaboration area in which participants can carry out effectively many types of different tasks.

The set of annotation tools available in the MediaSpace facility of Session include line, basic drawing shapes and a text tool. For each one the user can specify the color and line thickness. In the case of the text tool any font, size and style can also be specified.

In a unique first for live collaboration tools Session allows the user to specify line thickness numerically providing much greater flexibility and precision than what normally possible in analogous situations with other tools.

Line sizes, color, and default font characteristics can all be set before a session as standard defaults. This can be achieved by utilizing the Preferences menu command available in the Media Space standard File menu.

All annotation objects created inside MediaSpace can be easily selected, moved, deleted and resized at the user wish. All graphical objects behave as if they were dealt with in a standard graphic application allowing for very easy and intuitive manipulation of any visual element presented on the MediaSpace slide area.

The MediaSpace behaves truly like a standard graphic application space. The user can perform multiple selections with the Shift key, and while drawing lines or geometric shapes Shift can be used to create perfectly symmetrical squares or circles, while when drawing lines it allows for the execution of perfectly horizontal, vertical and oblique lines.

Objects created in the Media Space cannot be copied and pasted nor can graphic objects coming from other applications be pasted in this space.

A complementary toolbar provides the ability to align graphic objects present on any slide of the Media Space just like the Alignment function available in many popular presentation and graphics layout programs.

A visible or invisible grid can be easily activated in the presentation area of Media Space. The grid can be customized in terms of spacing among its elements and the user can select if the to display the grid and which color to have it appear. When kept invisible it acts as a magnetic grid capable of facilitating the job of the presenter in properly positioning and aligning together multiple objects inside a slide.

A multiple-step Undo command is also available when working inside the MediaSpace allowing easy step back through the most recently executed commands.

Of particular interest is the fact that either the video-in or video-out window can be dragged into the MediaSpace and fully annotated while a live feed is being shown. This has proven to be extremely useful in medical applications or in other instances where a video feed may benefit from being annotated live.
