Firewall Friendliness

« Browser Compatibility | Main | Setup - Installation »

If you are sitting in a company network with your PC you may have problems in placing or receiving audio/video calls with NetMeeting. This is generally due to Proxy, Firewall or NAT access limitations originated by your router. A number of technical solutions exist to circumvent these problems but none is foolproof. For more information you can access: http://www.meetingbywire.com/Firewalls.htm

A properly configured firewall will make it impossible for you to establish a connection using NetMeeting.

NetMeeting requires so many privileged and non-privileged ports to be open, that it presents a considerable security risk to support NetMeeting across a firewall. Opening the required ports would undermine the integrity of the firewall.

Detailed technical information on how to connect Microsoft NetMeeting through a firewall is available at: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx? scid=kb;en-us;Q158623
