Audio Conferencing - VoIP

« Text Chat | Main | Video Conferencing »

NetMeeting provides a solid and highly configurable audio support facility. Different audio codecs can be utilized (including G.723.1, L&H CELP/SBC, u-Law/ a-Law, and Microsoft PCM) to control quality of audio versus the bandwidth required to transmit it.

Audio can be run both in half and full-duplex allowing participants to talk while they are receiving the audio. On high bandwidth connections and on Intranets this is a remarkably useful function. Also very useful is the integration of a facility that allows automatic and manual silence detection controls. This allows people to talk without having to press any button since the microphone becomes voice-activated. This greatly facilitates voice exchanges online.
