Web Touring - Co-Browsing

« PowerPoint Presentation Facilities | Main | Presence Awareness »

Microsoft Live Meeting integrates a co-browsing facility. The implementation of this facility differs from most other Web conferencing tools in that Live Meeting does not do true co-browsing by sending the URL for a certain Web site to all participants, but it actually fectches the Web page for the presenter, takes a screenshot of it and then broadcasts that screenshot to all participants.

Once the Web slide is created it is shown to all meeting participants. The Live Meeting feature that taes the screenshot of the Web page is very accurate and it actually takes a full "page-length" screenshot of the page selected.

Limitations
I am not really convinced of the advantage of this approach as it takes more time and bandwidth to navigate together any Web page. Furthermore I am baffled by the fact that nonetheless an image of the Web page is created the presenter has no way to annotate it, mark it up or co-scroll it with participants.
