Participant Controls

Linktivity WebDemo provides an effective participant controls option that supports the attendees in a real-time meeting.
In the WebDemo user guide, the participant controls instructions are located in the section about the participant console.

Review Overview
This review discusses the following aspects of the participant controls available within Linktivity WebDemo:

Default Capabilities
When a WebDemo meeting has just begun, the participants only have the right to text chat and raise their hand to ask for attention. It is up to the presenter/moderator to assign additional rights.
The attendees can raise their hand to request the attention of the presenter/moderator by clicking on a little icon with the shape of a hand. The same icon will show up next to the host name in the attendee list. Only the presenter/moderator can turn off that icon.

The participant can also enable the "raise hand" option by right-clicking on the name of the host and selecting the Raise Your Hand option from the menu.

Additional Rights
Once the host has assigned the participant the right to actively use a chosen feature, the attendee gets the role of presenter in a desktop sharing / application sharing or co-browsing session, may annotate the screen using the the available transparent whiteboard, may use the microphone or may broadcast live video images.
In addition to these rights the participant may also temporarily obtain the entire meeting control from the host.

Cons

  • WebDemo does not offer a participant control to provide real-time feedback about what is being presented or asked by the host. With such a feedback system the attendee can indicate that some problem hinders the ongoing presentation, for example because something in the presentation is unclear, the meeting presenter speaks too slow/fast or because the attendee has a question.
  • Participants can't set the number of colors displayed, the resolution/size of the image, the audio and video streams bitrate nor the framerate. These factors can directly influence the responsiveness and latency of their systems.

Conclusion
In Linktivity WebDemo the default controls available to a meeting participant are the bare minimum. Once the host enables additional rights, participants can start using the meeting session effectively. To see how the participant controls option in Linktivity WebDemo compares to the one offered by other tools reviewed in the Guide, consult the Participant Controls Comparison Table.
