The SOHO Report at a Glance

What is this report about?
This report reviews and summarizes the best and most effective SOHO (small office - home office) Web conferencing and live presentation tools that individuals and small groups can utilize to conduct online meetings, live presentations, and distance training classes.

What does this report contain?
The report contains hard-to-find, unique and personally scouted information, revealing the pros and cons of 15 selected SOHO Web conferencing systems.
This report focuses on those live conferencing tools that are cost-effective, reliable and accessible today.

To whom is this report targeted?
This report is targeted at individuals, professionals, small to moderate organizations and commercial companies. It is also directed at small groups, geographically dispersed teams, families and friends living at great distances, companies operating with international offices, and to non-profit organizations.

Why was this report prepared?
This report has been prepared to fill a specific information need. Web conferencing and live presentations are not the realm of large organizations and commercial enterprises only. Also individuals and small groups have a high interest for these tools though they have different requirements, budgets and support needs. This reports helps individuals and small companies identify and select their most fitting online conferencing tool without having to guess or try out each one of the options available on the market today.

How was the report created?
I, Luigi Canali De Rossi, prepared this report by personally testing, trying out and utilizing with friends and colleagues each one of the tools reviewed. Three rounds of testing were devoted to each tool. One dedicated to initial familiarization, the second to effective and thorough testing, and the third to verifying and updating the information before final publication.

I have indeed tested and tried many more tools than the ones included in this final report, but I have selected and included only the ones that could actually make a difference to my audience of individuals and small groups/companies.

When was this report prepared?
This report was prepared between August 2002 and February 28th 2003.

Who prepared this report?
I, Luigi Canali De Rossi researched and tested all of the tools reviewed and wrote 95% of the content. Nicole Neuberger revised, edited and corrected most of the content and finalized the enterprise systems reviews as well as the summary comparison tables. She also prepared and edited the complete 2003 International Directory of Web Conferencing Vendors and the Try-Out supplement. Mihai Bocsaru executed all of the review layouts in Word which we then later converted into PDF.
