Convoq ASAP integrates a well designed and feature-rich Text Chat facility inside its live meeting area.

All of the basic text chat functionalities have been made available and are easily accessible through a short set of very easy-to-recognize icons.

In addition a few advanced options and unique additions make this component extremely well executed and useful. The text features specifically include:

a) Text formatting in Bold, Italic, Underline and the option to select an optional font selection dialog box in which to select other typefaces and their size.

b) Text selection and the ability to copy and paste to other documents or applications.

c) Auto URL detection and formatting. If you type in a URL inside the text chat area, it is automatically converted into a fully clickable hyperlink.

d) Text chat transcripts can be saved.
A full record of any textual exchange happened during a live meeting can be easily recorded and saved as an .html file locally on your hard disk. When you requested, ASAP saves transcripts in the folder My Documents\ASAP\History, which it automatically creates when it is installed. It gives each transcript file a name based on the date and time that the meeting took place; for example: 2003-09-04 16.01.35.000 Transcript. The file is saved in HTML format and can be viewed at anytime with a browser.

A text chat transcript of a meeting where some or all the people were not able to attend can be automatically sent out according to your preference (File -> Edit Preferences).

e) Integration of "emotisounds". This is a small (probably too small) set of audible emoticons that allow the presenter or participant to extend significantly and very expressively her range of feedback options.

Note: Emotisounds can be disabled from the General Preferences settings.

f) Control of text display size (independent of formatting size set). This control allows end user to control on their side of large they want to see the text in the text chat messaging area, independently of how the other parties may have set their own font size.

g) A sound alert can be optionally associated with the reception of any message during any live meeting.

h) The Chat History. This is a dedicated area of the Meeting Console that displays the 60 most recent chat statements.

Cons:

  • Only a maximum of 250 characters can be input in the text chat window for each message sent.
