Conferral

Firewall Friendliness

« Browser Compatibility | Main | Setup - Installation »

Conferral detects most software firewalls automatically and provides interactive instructions for allowing Conferral access to the Internet when needed.

Conferral automatically configures the Windows Firewall in Windows XP Service Pack 2.

Accessing Conferral is equivalent to accessing any other web site and therefore it normally requires no firewall configuration for those invited to participate in a meeting.

The Conferral host may be the only one needing to configure the firewall installed on her PC to allow Conferral software to operate freely.

Conferral connects with the company servers to establish a secure connection between Conferral users and their attendees. The traffic resembles normal Web traffic and is generally handled transparently.

In rare cases, IT departments filter network traffic only allowing external communication on an exception basis. In such cases, Conferral outbound communication (to the Internet) must be enabled on ports 80, 443, and 9000.

Also, if you use a personal software-based firewall like ZoneAlarm, McAfee Firewall Plus or Norton Personal Firewall you will likely need to configure it to allow Conferral access to the diverse software components that make up the Conferral system. These include:

  • Conferral

  • Conferral Connection Wizard

  • conferral_pxy.exe

  • Conferral_service

  • Java

  • Conferral_tray.

More information on how to set up and configure your personal firewall to allow Conferral to operate is available here.
