La audiencia de levantó de sus asientos y no se les pedirá que vuelvan a sentarse - armados con las herramientas de edición fácil de video online, las nuevas audiencias mediáticas están estimulando un nuevo interés al área de rápido crecimiento de videos generados por los consumidores. La explosión de sitios de video online como YouTube ha creado una audiencia activa y participativa que sabe lo que quiere y no tiene miedo de crear su propia versión mientras lo busca. Nunca ha habido un mejor momento para aprovechar el potencial creativo ilimitado de la nueva audiencia activa y participativa y su entusiasmo sin fronteras para crear contenido online de video.

Hasta hace muy poco, inclusive, las únicas organizaciones que hacían algo de dinero con esta mejora masiva en los recursos multimedia generados por los usuarios eran los pocos grandes sitios para compartir videos que fueron los primeros en proveer una plataforma de edición y distribución simplemente para todos. Con la gran cantidad de tráfico que algunos de estos sitios fueron capaces de generar, no fue nada difícil obtener ingresos de publicidad, cualquiera sea el formato elegido.
Incluso en los casos en los que el modelo les ofrecía a los publicadores particulares de video la posibilidad de integrar avisos y sponsors en sus videos, la devolución y retribución económica ha sido para la mayoría muy, muy baja.
Sin embargo, las cosas pueden cambiar pronto.
Así sea que estés tratando de publicitar tu compañía SOHO, con la esperanza de crear un canal nicho de TV de Internet que emita desde la web, o buscando encontrar la manera de promocionar tu producto o tu comunidad local, los videos generados por los usuarios tienen algo que ofrecerte.
Porque una audiencia activa es una audiencia comprometida, y una audiencia comprometida se queda y promociona tus buenos contenidos mejor y con mayor rentabilidad que cualquier otro por ahí, ya no es suficiente sencillamente divertir y entretener a los visitantes de tu sitio: el próximo paso es involucrarlos activamente en tu proceso de edición, investigación y publicación de video.
