The Greenstone Digital library is a set of software tools designed to create and distribute digital image libraries and visual collections.

This software has been developed by the New Zealand Digital Library Project at the University of Waikato with the purpose of "empowering users, particularly in universities, libraries, and other public service institutions, to build their own digital libraries."

The software is made of the two following modules:

1) the Collector, which helps create new collections, modify or add to existing ones, or delete collections;

2) the Administration, which allows the addition of new users, summarizes the collections in the system, and gives technical information on the installation.
